According to this the AFL is to review the transcript of the Judges comments.

What then does the review hold in store for Marley and the Pies?

Bucks is saying that Marley is likely to play this Saturday and with Reid, will be ready for senior footy after the bye. Can't wait to see him playing again.

I reckon this 29 yo goose probably copped his right whack. (pardon the pun).
If he's had his jaw shattered by 1 punch from an 18 yo, don't think he'd last too long in jail - especially with the other inmates knowing the back-story.
"Bubba's bitch" comes to mind! LMAO!!!!!!

You are of course right but I reckon the entire priciple of the instigator getting away with it is so wrong, and has always been wrong. Even with the AFL umpires, you see this all the time........... Exclamation

My daughter got busted whacking another girl in retaliation and got in trouble. It's always the retaliator who cops it, from cradle to grave. I've told her that if she hits someone back then she'll get in trouble from school but not from me. If she hits someone first then there'll be hell to pay Laughing

As for the home defence thing, it is indeed an absolute joke that we don't have the right to self defence without jumping through legal hoops of 'reasonable force' to avoid going to jail. Someone invades your home then all bets should be off (called Castle doctrine in the States). No chance of Police making it in time to save your life so as they say, better to be judged by 12 peers than buried by 6.

No thanks. Do we want a Pistorious in Australia? How about "stand your ground" laws so we can have a Trayvon Martin? Just because someone enters your property does not give you any right to act violently. It could be a disoriented elderly person, a lost child, a confused person suffering from a mental illness, a relative sneaking home after being out without permission, etc, etc...

The number of serious attacks or murders on victims unknown to the perpetrator are so low in Australia, that "castle" or "stand your ground" laws would be completely ridiculous, and far more likely to lead to some of the examples I listed earlier than actual self defense cases. The right to self defense is there, it does not need to be extended.

And in Marley's case? The instigator only got away with it because his assault (assuming he was one of those involved) caused little to no damage. If he'd broken Marley's jaw he'd be the one before the courts, but he didn't. The fact that Marley was assaulted earlier helped to reduce his sentence, it did not absolve him of guilt, and there's no reason why it should.

An excellent outcome for Marley now and very relieved to hear that he's avoiding jail time. I was fearful that he would do some jail time but thankfully this isn't the case.

Nevertheless for those that think Marley got off supposedly well he was still convicted of a serious crime and he's received a 12 month suspended sentence so he's hardly been let off so to speak. Admittedly, Marley pleaded not guilty but his work off the field has to be commended as well and he's clearly shown some maturity in this whole case as well.

I hope he can get back to playing footy soon because we've missed his presence in the side this season.

Compare that to a bad outcome for Marley and relieved to hear that he's avoiding jail time.
