Thought I'd start a thread for those who are interested in forming a recreational bike riding group in Melbourne. It's open to anyone to join regardless of experience or expertise.

So, any ideas about when, where and how the group should be formed can be posted here, along with any suggestions for rides.

as the footy season and winter sets in i'd hazard a guess it will become difficult to arrange times.

i think it would be sensible to get a gauge on everyone's abilities so that we can tailor rides accordingly.

we're lucky in melbourne with the number of places we can cycle. i don't mind heading to frankston and back and also going up to sassafras but i suspect most people will politely decline that. i have a hybrid bike too so can do the more leisurely rides. the warburton rail trail is a terrific ride. a couple of hours each way but it suits all abilities.

i do a bit of road cycling so have a high degree of confidence on most roads in melbourne. the only road i refuse to cycle on is punt road.

Anyone sane with an option refuses to drive on it.

the section between commercial road and victoria st is a no fly zone for me. the other sections are fine.

The safest and widest bike track I ride on is East Link. Happy to do it anytime. Varius points people can meet up. If someone wants to start a Face Ache group. I will join.
