Football is their trade. If a club is willing to pay them X amount of dollars to play for them, how is that any different to the way we do things? Fair game son, fair game.
Yes it's fair game but the players started somewhere, how about giving something back to the local club that got you into the AFL? I say no every time one approaches.

With the state of Tasmanian footy atm, I think it's not a bad thing. Might be for some leagues, but getting some big crowds into the footy this season is what the league needs.
State Footy is on the decline across the board. Local Footy is on the rise.

Sadly footy in Tasmania in general has declined, so much so that the top talent from the Under 18's and all considering bigger moves to the SANFL, WAFL, VFL.

All clubs can do is put a clearance fee, 10k was put on Bowden, Cox, Brown, and others. Only Brown was signed.

The travelling circus of the disgraced former footballers!

Come have a look for 2 bits a gander!

It's all a bit much isn't it? Aker came to Canberra last year on his quest for the quick buck, bloody disgraceful to see them getting pimped out to the Country leagues like this

I think it's a good thing.

Ex-players get a bit of coin, particularly early on in a life after football. And the clubs get a reward by bringing people through the gates.

Read this article if you need any convincing that it's not just a one way street with the ex-player getting all the cash. Sure they get paid but it's a win-win, with the club making a tidy return also.

Quote:
Akermanis inspired the Hawks to break a 16-game losing streak.

He wanted to play four games with Tuggeranong, but a June 30 transfer deadline in the NEAFL limited him to just one appearance.

He was also the guest speaker at a club function on Saturday night.

The final figure of his financial injection is not known, but an Akermanis jersey was auctioned for $1400, a game ball for $1300, a raffle raised $1000 and an estimated $4000 from the gate.

All money raised is a direct boost to the struggling Hawks. Sponsors covered Akermanis's game fee and accommodation with Tuggeranong only having to pay for his flights to Canberra.

It wasn't such a great outing for Didak strained hamstring in the first half, he was disappointed but Rick Slatter has invited him back. http://daveharding.studiozero3zero.com/?p=7

Chris Tarrant has signed a five game deal with North Launceston, he will also act as a mentor to their Development League team, Under 16s & 15s. http://daveharding.studiozero3zero.com/?p=32

If the Bombers play finals there is an option of him playing. He plays today.

Righto. Typical narrow minded view.
Country clubs are battling...this injects buzz around town, more people through the gate and some good vibes around the place.
Something players who run out alongside these guys will remember it as a highlight of their career!

Incidently, Alan Didak has confirmed he will be pulling on a Marong Football Club jumper on June 14 in the Loddon Valley Football league (Bendigo and surrounding districts)

Looking forward to seeing Dids run around as a "Panther" for the day! Hope the hammy holds up.

Seems to be win win
The local team makes money the player does and no-one gets hurt except the occasional hamstring

North Launceston 21.18.144 - Launceston 10.5.65.

Tarrant booted five goals.
