Mind you - I had forgotten about the Sports Bar forum.

I should have moved those threads there - not VPT.

Mea culpa.

That maybe sums up the problem, most of us do forget about the sports bar forum.

Maybe, if more non-collingwood related AFL threads were moved there it would generate more users. That would be a reasonable outcome IMO.

However, the subject titles would need to be amended as the sports bar is for non football related stuff and GD is supposed to be for all football related stuff.

Maybe the name of that forum could be updated to include "Non Collingwood".

To return to this topic, I notice that the Essendon/ASADA thread has been moved to the Sports Bar. As a few have pointed out, the description of the respective subforums on the BB homepage is:

General Discussion wrote:
Use this forum for footy topics that don't belong relate specifically to any of the other forums. For non-footy sporting topics please use Nick's Sports Bar and for non-sporting topics please use Victoria Park Tavern.

No mention of Collingwood in GD, and a fairly specific description of what the Sports Bar is for. The descriptions could be changed, of course, but that's not really my point: those descriptions above describe how I (and, I presume, most others) have always understood the functions of GD and the Sports Bar; and, if I recall correctly, how each subforum has been generally used up until now. If this has changed, how can we be sure that it is what the Nick's community wants? It may not seem a big deal, but most posters do seem to like talking about all AFL topics on here, and the Sports Bar seems to be treated (rightly or wrongly) as a bit of a graveyard.

The General Discussion forum is still the best place on the Internet to discuss Collingwood, and general AFL topics on here are discussed from a Collingwood perspective. Isn't that enough? A suggestion on page one is that an "other AFL" subforum be created, but is that what people want? I've observed that one of the most successful aspects of the VPT has been its integration—I suspect that separate subforums for books, movies, politics, personal discussion etc (as on other boards) might have stunted its development. I could be wrong, but that's the feeling I get.

I know that bulletin boards are not democracies, and the mods have the right to do as they please. The bulletin board is not just for the moderators, however; it is for all of the people who post here. If the mods agree, I think this is an issue worthy of a poll to at least gauge dominant sentiments.

We (bbmods) do NOT have the right to do as we please. We are bound by The Rules - just as all Nick's members are.

Touche. What I meant is that, as a moderator, you're not bound to justify your decisions to us. That's fine. I'd just appreciate the chance for Nicksters to discuss this particular decision and have their opinions considered.

Thanks for a new section of the forum guys! It was long overdue because of the recent confusion of where certain threads should be posted in.
