If you see one magpie, you can expect sorrow, but two means joy.

One magpie indicates danger. Two equals joy in union.

To view one Magpie is said to be unlucky, whereas to view two is lucky.

Quite generally in western Europe and the British Isles the magpie is regarded as a bird of ill omen. It is unlucky to see one, especially one!

There's hope though.

In China, instead of being a sign of misfortune, the magpie is one of the most popular birds, and is seen as the messenger of good news and fortune. In fact, its name in Chinese literally means "bird of joy".

The magpie, also called xi que in Chinese, is always used to symbolize happiness as the character xi means happiness in Chinese. Therefore, two magpies facing each other means double happiness.

Yes I know it's only a load of old superstitions and there's much more important and relevant issues that will decide our clubs fate but after waiting 19 long years I'm at the point where I'II try anything to help secure our 15th flag.

God knows our club could do with a change in luck after the last 50 years.

We are the Collingwood "magpies" after all not magpie.

Make it happen Ed.

^Leaving the superstition to one side I actually prefer the look of the two magpie emblem.

I think our emblem probably is due for some updating. It is a little cluttered at the moment and the Aussie Flag has never been quite right since they had to move it to the other side.

I think emblem should have only:
1) Black and White Stripes.
2) The Magpie (have the same Magpie but maybe in 3D?)
3) The word "Collingwood FC"

I think basing an updated Collingwood emblem on the Juventus Emblem would be a good start. I would make the Magpie a lot more prominant though then the little horse / crown thing they have. I like the shiny / gloss finish too. That gloss finish with a 3D version of our traditional magpie would be a nice modern logo which doesn't look overly stylised, American and naff like say the new Adelaide Crows logo. Maintaining the magpie ensures the tradition is maintained. I'd NEVER not want the traditional magpie on our emblem. (Note, the stars behind the logo on this link aren't actually part of the Juve logo).

Our motto is side by side.

This in itself is a good enough reason for us to incorporate two magpies on our emblem.

One for sorrow, two for joy;
Three for a girl, four for a boy;
Five for silver, six for gold;
Seven for a secret, never to be told;
Eight for a wish, nine for a kiss;
Ten for a bird that's best to miss.

how about six?

I liked it a few years back and I like it now.

Why would people be so apprehensive to change it. It's not like the emblem has any history. It's only about 12 years old.

We live in an age of infernal tinkering. Why can't we just leave things as they are?

If it ain't broke...

Weren't there some people on here criticising the Lions for changing their lion recently? Razz

I agree, We live in the age of change for the sake of change.

That is part of an Olde Rhyme and goes like this....
One for bad news,
Two for mirth,
Three for a wedding and....
Four for a Birth...
and IT relates to CROWS!... NOT Magpies, You dolt! Rolling Eyes

I have NEVER heard that the Magpie is a Bird of ill Omen!
Where did you hear that?
Carrawongs are regarded by indig' Aussies as unlucky but again, they are NOT Magpies!
Oh,....and my avatar "Heckle and Jeckle" are both Magpies,.....not Crows ! Evil or Very Mad

Personally I'd like to see the Eureka Stokade Flag replace the "so-called... Australian flag" on the Magpie Badge!
I DON'T like Rugby and I don't like Our flag with the British Union Jack in the top corner!

But that's another story and not relavent to this thread!

"Side by side We stike together!"
